I believe suffering needs to be a constant in our lives.
Every day we must challenge ourselves to do something in our routine that we do not want to do.
It could be something as obvious as going for a run instead of sleeping in, or something not so obvious like taking a little extra time in your day to listen to someone you disagree with to help better understand their perspective on things.
Please understand, I do not mean we need to suffer in our lives just for the sake of suffering or misery. I am not talking about pushing ourselves to the absolute physical or mental limit every day as in going outside to workout in 95-degree heat with no water allowed, but we need to move toward a habit of creating daily practices that push us past our comfort zones.
To me, suffering means creating tension. It is choosing the hard path, the path less traveled.
